Attendance Policy

Studies have shown that attendance is the number one factor in determining whether a student will graduate on time. To best support our students, Fir Ridge has adopted an attendance system that helps students track their attendance and meet attendance goals.

Expectations

Students are expected to attend school 90% of the time and complete 90% of classroom assignments. This means they cannot have more than four unexcused absences in a quarter. This amounts to two unexcused absences a month.

If a student has more than four unexcused absences, all is not lost! Students are allowed to make up three unexcused absences in addition to those four unexcused absences. This gives students a seven day limit for unexcused absences. Any more than that, and they will not be eligible for credit that quarter.

Card System

Students track their attendance using a points system. In each class, they receive a point for attending and a point for participating in class. Students track their points on their “blue card,” so they should always know how many points they have and how many they need to earn credit.

Consequences

When a student does not achieve their 90% attendance goal, they are not eligible for credit that quarter. Rather than failing, however, students receive a “No Pass” or an “NP” on their transcript. An NP means we are temporarily withholding credit until the student achieves their 90% attendance goal in a future quarter. Once they hit their goal, we return both their credit and the grade they earned.

If they are unable to reach their 90% attendance goal during any quarter that school year, students can earn credit back by attending summer school.
